What is CDW (COLLISION DAMAGE WAIVER):

Car rental agencies offer an optional collision damage waiver (CDW), which helps pay for damage to the rented car.  The waiver’s cost depends on various factors, including the rental car type and where the vehicle is being driven.  A collision damage waiver typically covers losses from any damage to a rental car while in your possession.

IF YOU ACCEPT THE CDW (COLLISION DAMAGE WAIVER):

  1. The hirer is responsible for a deductible up to US $2000.00 in respect of damages to the hired vehicle. This involves fire, theft, and collision damage.
  2. A CDW is not an insurance policy, it simply limits your out-of-pocket costs if the vehicle is damaged while you are renting it.
  3. CDW daily rate and the deductible amount you pay varies by the type of vehicle that is rented.

IF YOU DECLINE THE CDW (COLLISION DAMAGE WAIVER)

  1. The hirer is responsible for the vehicle in respect of damages to the hired vehicle. This involves fire, theft, and collision damage.
  2. The customer is responsible for all damage to the rented vehicle resulting from the customer’s negligence.
  3. Limited CDW does not apply to damage arising out of customer’s negligence, violations of motor vehicle statutes, or breach of the terms and conditions.
  4. The customer must immediately call the Police and a Representative from St. John’s Car Rental to the scene of an accident involving a hired vehicle. DO NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE UNLESS ASKED TO DO SO BY THE POLICE. An accident report must be completed for St. John’s Car Rental.
